I have a love for the movies. The last thread I made was only for the Summer movies so I have made this one to continue discussions on movies past, present and future around the world. But additionally I have added TV and Music so that all aspects of entertainment can be discussed here as well. This will keep things tidy in one thread.


James Cameron's highly anticipated movie event of the year AVATAR has been sold out for its November 24, 2009 private showing to a select audience. The official trailer broke all past records for most viewings! Everybody who had a chance to see 17 mins of the people in the official opening has been raving about it ever since. Cameron is playing it perfectly when it comes creating hype for the movie.

The teaser kept one guessing but the first official trailer gives an idea of the storyline and plot. It has changed the ball game because it is very exciting.

You can view it below in YouTube HD. The Gunships are fantastic looking IMO and I will purchase one. The most legendary movie toy IMO is either the Millennium Falcon or the Ecto-1 vehicle. I was a sucker for that Caddy.




There are strong rumours around that the total cost for the making of Avatar will be $500 million! The movie itself cost around a shade over $300 million but around $200 million is for the marketing and hype! Cameron is good enough to give heart attacks to investors! High risk high reward. That expenditure on one single movie easily dwarfs the amount spent on Titanic which was less than half. Heck, with that money we could build our own stadium!

It means the movie better be number 1 in the US for at least 6 weeks and it has to rake in around $400 million from the rest of the world to make a reasonable profit. There is a part 2 planned as well so they might have already put that in planning and like Perez spent it all in one go for the sets and props and re-use them in Part II saving the costs.


My advice to all of you is to watch AVATAR in a proper 3D cinema where possible. Don't do a Gaylliani and save a few bucks on the ticket price or travel cost. Just experience it in the best cinema near you with proper 3D capability. That means IMAX or one of the new DLP cinemas. It will be a visual treat. You will travel to Pandora. This movie will change cinematography. One of the reasons for its high cost of production is that no movie has ever been filmed with this technology.


I've seen Star Trek, G.I. Joe and Transformers II: Revenge of the Fallen so far. Loved Star Trek and thought that G.I. Joe was good. Transformers II was laughable but good entertainment as I had left out my brain at the door. I was prepared for the BS.

I will see Mann's Public Enemies over the weekend. Waiting for Angels & Demons and Terminator Salvation.

I am "not" a fan of any of M. Night Shyamalan's movies. They are always based on a twisted theme full of BS. It is also one of the reasons he has gone down rather than up after his first sleeper hit [The Sixth Sense] starring Bruce Willis.

However, I saw this teaser in one of the DVDs and it had me thinking to perhaps watch this movie when it is released in Summer 2010.

I am going to boycott all of M. Night's movies in future if this turns out to be another one of his bullshit twisted movies. Last chance saloon for him.

The movie is based on a book so we will see multiple parts.


I like the teaser a lot with powerful music and lots of intrigue. He better not mess it up.

I only got to know about Avatar when the trailer was released. Didn't know this was a project by Cameron and that he had worked on it for a long time at the time, but I really thought it looked like a generic sci-fi movie. But reading up a little on it, the good impressions and seeing the newest trailer has me hyped for the movie. I'm eager to see this revolutionary technology that may be a little hard to see in a trailer.

But I really can't see what's so ground breaking with the CGI used, this isn't the first film filmed in front of a green screen and my biggest problem with CGI is always going to be that if you know the creature isn't real then you know it's CGI and therefore it looks kind of fake.

Star Trek was pretty good, Transformers 2 was entertaining but GI Joe was bad IMO. It was the acting and the dialogue that bothered me and even though Transformers 2 wasn't that much better in that area, I liked it more because I liked the action scenes more.

Avatar is going beyond CGI. A simple CGI movie sets one back $150 million tops for a movie ... make that $200 but is stretching it.

The technology when it comes to filming, concept design and sheer visual periphery is where this movie is going to stand out in 3D. The trailer even though it is in HD is showing glimpses of the visual richness but it is still not enough IMO. You have to watch the trailer very closely about 5 times to start noticing the small details in the background to start appreciating what this movie is striving to do visually. I just hope that the script is also good enough to complement the visuals otherwise it just becomes a special effects extravaganza and nothing more.

That is what is going to set it apart. If you continue reading on the movie and the subject itself, there are claims that the movie's visuals have the capability to ignite and send messages from the eyes to that part of the brain which has not been touched. I don't even know if that sort of thing is doable but a claim is a claim.

RealD 3D will be the 3D technology for this movie. So it's best to go to one of the cinemas below in Sverige for viewing of Avatar. Sverige has 7 of them.

Watch "James Cameron's Vision" featurette over there. All new videos will be uploaded there in the buildup to the worldwide premeire on December 18, 2009.

I don't know about the plot but the movie will be a visual treat with stunning depth in imagery. The 1080p/720p trailers can be downloaded from the official website as well.

Whoa there is a 3D movie theatre on Hötorget? I didn't know that, I thought the only 3D theatre was the IMAX at Cosmonova but that one only shows documentaries. Well now I know where I'm going to go to watch CGI heavy movies from now on.

Hm you say that the premiere is on December the 18th? That's when my last exam is, maybe I'll treat my self with a movie that night then
