AC Milan chiefs stay in Belgium for Bassegio talks
tribalfootball.com - November 5, 2003
AC Milan officials remained in Belgium overnight in order to speak with Anderlecht about captain Walter Bassegio.
The midfielder is a prime target for Milan, who are keen to tie up a deal for the player ahead of rivals Lazio and Torino. Anderlecht are asking £6.5 million for Bassegio.
Milan are confident of warding off rival interest thanks to the influence of club official, Jean-Pierre Meersseman, who is a close friend of the midfielder and also has ties with Anderlecht.

Any truth to this, Belgian boys? ;)

This is the first thing I hear about this news, nowhere in a belgian newspaper or tv station
He's good but not good enough for Milan imo, I don't like him very much, let me say he has his days but can be bad also many games in a row

I also heard nothing about it. The last thing i heard about bassegio is that he will talk with anderlecht to extend his contract. But he also said he wanted to leave anderlecht after this seasen. So i dont know what he wants.
But hes not milan material! Good player but nothing for us, maybe for torino!

All I see of him is courtesy of `Eurogoals` and CL highlights packages so its hard to gauge a decent opinion of him, but what I tend to hear is that he suffers too many lean spells and that his physical condition is an ongoing concern. More suited to a Man City than Milan I would have thought.

Baseggio, target of Inter Milan
EXCLUSIVE
By Dominique Antognoni
Skysports.com can reveal that Anderlecht's gifted midfielder Walter Baseggio is ready to move to Internazionale.
The Brussels-based Belgian international has Italian parentage and is keen to fulfil a long-held ambition by moving to the Neroazzurri, providing the contacts are stepped up in 2004.
"Yes, Inter called," Baseggio told skysports.com. "My agent told me that there are already contacts.
"This time, I am ready, yes. I'm already an expert player.
"I have played 200 games with Anderlecht. I'm the captain. I have even played 50 games in the European Cup."
The 25-year-old former Belgian Player of the Year has sought advice from Rode Duivels legend Enzo Scifo, who was actually born in Italy.
Scifo had a disappointing spell with Inter but returned to Italy later in his career to impress with Torino.
"I have spoken with Scifo a number of times," added Baseggio. "I asked him about Italian football, the pressures.
"I asked him why he failed at the beginning and so on.
"He told me that I have to move not too young because it is terrible to play in Italy if you are not ready."
