View Full Version : UEFA CL WEEK 2 Celtic Glasgow - Ac Milan
artan
2nd October 2007, 12:19
Group stage - 03 October 2007 20:45 (CET) - Celtic Park - Glasgow
Celtic FC will be looking to avenge defeat in last season's first knockout round as European champions AC Milan return to Celtic Park on Matchday 2.
• While Celtic suffered a 2-0 defeat by FC Shakhtar Donetsk on Matchday 1, Milan took three points from their opener against SL Benfica at the Stadio Guiseppe Meazza. This will be the Italian club's 200th European Champion Clubs' Cup game.
• The two sides are preparing for their seventh meeting in European competition. In their six previous games, Celtic have yet to record a win, drawing three games and losing the rest. Of their previous meetings in Glasgow, two have produced 0-0 draws with the other ending in a 1-0 win for Milan.
• Celtic visited Milan for the first time in 1968/69 and came away with a goalless draw from the first leg of their European Champion Clubs' Cup quarter-final tie. However, Piero Prati's lone strike at Celtic Park sent the Rossoneri through and they went on to lift the trophy.
• Milan beat Celtic 3-1 when the sides met for a second time at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the group stage of the 2004/05 competition. The Scottish team very nearly earned a draw as Stanislav Varga equalised Andriy Shevchenko's first-half opener with 16 minutes remaining. However, the Rossoneri struck twice in the closing moments through Filippo Inzaghi (89 minutes) and Andrea Pirlo (90).
• The two starting lineups that September 2004 night were:
Milan - Dida; Cafu, Nesta, Maldini, Pancaro; Gattuso, Pirlo, Kaká, Seedorf; Shevchenko, Tomasson
Celtic - Marshall; Agathe, Varga, Balde, Valgaeren; Petrov, Lennon, Sutton, Thompson; Hartson, Camara
• The teams drew 0-0 at Celtic Park in the return fixture, played in the final round of group games - a stalemate that consigned Celtic to fourth place, with Milan top.
• The two sides met again last season in the first knockout round, drawing 0-0 in the first leg in Glasgow before Kaká decided the tie with a strike three minutes into extra time in the second leg in Milan.
• The two starting lineups that March 2007 night were:
Milan - Dida; Oddo, Bonera, Maldini, Jankulovski; Gattuso, Ambrosini, Pirlo, Kaká, Seedorf; Inzaghi
Celtic - Boruc; Telfer, Varga, Balde, Naylor; Lennon, McGeady, Sno, Jarošík, Nakamura; Vennegoor of Hesselink
• Celtic have played 15 games against Italian sides, with the most famous of them being Jock Stein's side's 2-1 win against FC Internazionale Milano in the 1966/67 European Cup final. That defeat was avenged in 1971/72 when Celtic suffered semi-final heartache, losing 5-4 on penalties at Celtic Park following two 0-0 draws.
• Celtic's overall record against Italian sides reads won four, drawn five and lost six. At home, they have won three, drawn three and lost one.
• Milan's overall record in 12 games against Scottish sides reads won seven, drawn three and lost two. In Scotland itself, they have won two, drawn two and lost two.
• Celtic's Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink was in the PSV Eindhoven team beaten by Milan in the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League semi-finals. Milan's Gennaro Gattuso, meanwhile, played in five 'Old Firm' derbies for former club Rangers FC against Celtic in 1997/98 - winning three, drawing one and losing one.
• Massimo Donati faces an early reunion with his former Milan team-mates having joined Celtic from the Italian club for a €4.5m fee in June. The player made just 17 league appearances for Milan after joining the club from Atalanta BC in 2001, spending much of his spell with the club on loan to other Serie A sides.
With goalie Dida injuried we will have to stick further with Zeljko Kalac.Bad news concerning Kakha Kaladze. The georgian defender will be sidelined for foue weeks.
The Celtic game will be a chance for Carlo Ancelotti, to field as much as possible DMs.
Probable formation:
Kalac, Oddo, Nesta , Bonera , Jankulovski-Max-Gatusso,Emerson-Seedorf,Kaka,Inzaghi
Prediction: 0-0

Never mind that he gifted away two goals, that despicable piece of acting by Dida aimed at having the result of the match overturned is his lowest ebb; the absolute sewer. It's a crying shame that Milan are associated with such a charlatan, such a cheat.
Oh, and by the way, Milan are in crisis.

Dida is so ****ing useless. Always giving returns to the striker. Why can't he for once hold on to a ball or block it to the side. The shot wasn't even powerful.
How many goals are we going to concede because of goalkeeping errors, before the management wakes up and realize that our goalkeepers are ****ing ****.
Btw we are so predictable right now. The other teams have figured us out. Our gameplan is pretty much to play it out to Janku or Oddo who crosses the ball. Problem is there's often only one striker in the area. Too easy to defend as our strikers are not 2 m. tall.

Exactly that I think you should take into consideration whenever Ancelotti and Galliani are under fire from criticism. There may be factors that we don't know about, namely Berlusconi, that make things worse.
If it's true, I think it's a disgrace. Has Berlusconi lost his passion?

Except what has already been said, this is really bad. Milan had no play, and didn't create much worth mentioning. Even if few chances were given to Celtic, the goals were bad actions from Dida in particular.
However, I am disappointed with that player (I believe Gourcuff) that made McDonald onside at his goal. He didn't pay attention at all at the pushup.
I also noted Pirlo's worst performance so far this season, even if I to an extent understand it's hard for a player like Pirlo to work properly when the play looks like it did.

I watched highlights of the match on-line, Milan played very bad, but Carletto thinks that Milan didn't deserve to lose. According to him, the main reason of the defeat is slippery pitch which didn't allow us to play the ball on the ground. Milan was obliged to play in aerial play, but scots do it better.
Dida and Bonera made gross mistakes.
P.S. Provided to be, one of Milan's official sponsors is Eminflex. It's not my company, frankly :)

Sad to see the match end like this, but somehow it suits to our games this season. We played really bad again.
At least Gourcuff got some playing time. It is also sad how La Gazzetta rates Gourcuff every time. He got a 5 for his performance yesterday. The first goal wasn't his fault at all 'coz Ambro didn't take care of McManus. The second goal may be his fault or at least he says so, but the biggest mistake there goes to Dida who's behaviour after that incident with the Celtis fan isn't acceptable.
Something/someone has to change. Full stop!

Well what can we say about such match? we lost in every possible way except maybe on paper.
Our spirit was terrible, how defence was horrible and Dida did his best to make it worse. First his blunders and then his imbarrasingly bad acting. He didn´t even have to go down like he is shot, he was barely touched and he should just have kept playing, noone gets hurts by a punch like that unless the attacker was carrying something heavy or sharp when he was throwing that punch. It was extremely poor judgement and acting by Dida. I love the guy but this was terrible.
If there is one thing that makes me happy this day is that people seems to start realising that Galliani should be get half of the blame and critisism that people are throwing in his way. As I have been saying he is an excellent book keeper, and the most loyal director you can every find, but Berlusconi´s interventions and personal agendas are hurting the club. What can Galliani do when Berlusconi blocking all his moves?

Yeah indeed, I've seen a lot of people blame Gourcuff for the goals saying that the first was an own goal :S IMO the first goal wasn't his fault at all, he didn't have time to react. But he could have done better at the second goal.
If you forget about the goals I thought he was pretty good! We got some speed and running when he came on. Heck I thought Gila was good too in the little time that he got.

UEFA may fine Dida
Thursday 4 October, 2007
UEFA's investigation into last night's events at Celtic Park may result in a fine for Milan goalkeeper Nelson Dida as Celtic's chairman criticises him..
The Brazilian shot stopper had the worst possible night. At fault for both the Bhoys’ goals, he was then confronted by a fan who had invaded the pitch.
The supporter lightly tapped Dida on the cheek, but the towering custodian collapsed to the floor and was taken off on a stretcher.
Celtic chairman Brian Quinn has asked UEFA to investigate the Milan ‘keeper’s reaction to the attack and has condemned his play-acting.
“I’m making no excuses for the behaviour, and the fan behaved disgracefully, but the contact made with the goalkeeper was minimal,” he told BBC Radio Five Live.
“The antics of Dida have to be taken into account as well as he took a couple of steps after the fan and then obviously made the decision he should go to ground.
“Unless I missed something he was carried off on a stretcher for what seemed to be the lightest tap you can imagine.”
UEFA communications director William Gaillard has revealed that there could be action taken shortly.
“One of our prosecutors will look at the evidence and decide whether to open an investigation,” he told Sky Sports News.
“I don’t want to presume anything. There is a whole range of possible punishments, but of course there are precedents for the same kind of incidents.”
Dida was the centre of a controversial situation two seasons ago when a flare hit him during a clash with Inter in the Champions League.
On that occasion the Nerazzurri were forced to play four games behind closed doors, but this time there is more ambiguity.
It is possible that a fine could even be levelled at Dida after he chased the fan and then over-reacted to the contact.
Whatever the decision, a humiliating night of indignity at Celtic Park is likely to follow the under-fire ‘keeper for the foreseeable future.

What can I say? That was probably the worst performance I have ever seen by Milan. There was no inter play or running, it seems to me that we rely far too much on Ricky and if he can't do anything then we are screwed!:$ I really don't know the solution but something has to be done and done soon otherwise there's no CL next season(at best...)
About Yoann, I thought he did reasonably well, but why play him in such a crucial match? why not give him more time in the Serie A? He is a very good player and has potential, but playing him like last night is the wrong thing to do IMO

I watched part of the game late last night. I couldn't watch the second half. I think the first half might have been the worst 45 minutes of soccer i've EVER seen! What we had maybe 2 shots on goal?? The pitch was a mess but Celtic were playing on the same pitch. We need Ronaldo back, pippo cannot play day in and day out.
In times of desperation a team is either crushed by the preasure or they rise to the occasion. I think we can all agree that the game against Lazio is a desperate one. Forza Milan! I know we can right the ship.

Seems Galliani has come out, just as I suspected, and will support Dida
I hope UEFA does what Milan isn't willing to do...and that is put Dida away for a while, his actions we're shameful, to put it mildly.
But Celtic ppl have some balls though...maybe it's just me, but I don't think fans are supposed to enter the field and make contact with players.
Changing coaches will not help the matter much at the moment, Imo. And if the club doesn't support a Milan guy like Ancelotti why would they want to support an "outsider" like Mourinho or Lippi.
One thing about Carletto though, he should have spoken out about the players he wanted, maybe even threaten to walk out once he realized he wasn't getting the players he felt he needed.

I really don't see any way back for Dida now. Before last night he was just a poor keeper. Now he's indelibly tarnished as one of the master cheats of the contemporary game.
It'd take someone who's extraordinarily headstrong, someone with immense character to survive the coming months of intensive media scrutiny and mocking from rival supporters. Dida's always been a wilting flower in that regard so it wouldn't surprise me if we see him take an indefinite sabbatical in the coming weeks, perhaps instigated by the club itself.
The above scenario would be utopian to me as to be frank, I can no longer stand the sight of him. The stunt he pulled on Wednesday was the single most shameful act I've ever seen perpetrated by a Milan player in my viewing history. There must and shall be consequences and I sincerely hope that he's made to pay dearly.
Apropos the state of the club...it wears me out thinking about it. Life's various hurdles are tiresome enough without having to constantly bang one's head against the brick wall that is Berlusconi's methodology, trying to find logic where there is none. I'm gradually coming to terms with our new found pauper status - that the annually promised revolution will never arrive. The gravy train's over I'm afraid.

Thank you guys! I just had to put my thoughts together as i'm sick of those fans (mainly on czech Milan forum) that are accusing me of "not being the true fan cause I want the coach out after a few bad performances..saying that I should stay by Milan and support them." What a crap!
It's the same with people saying that "Gila has a wrong period and he will find hismelf again". But they don't realize it's not a short period. Not a single great performance or achievement can delete numbers of matches of poor football and bad results.
You gotta put it all together... Unfortunately people forget very quickly. You play bad for 3 month and then you beat someone strong with a style and finally win 2 or 3 games in a row versus some low seria A side..then Ambro scores a couple of goals in injury time...and the crisis is gonne!
...and a new crisis starts right after....but it's not like that...the truth is that we didn't really get out of the crisis since spring 2005 (the worse version is since the Instanbul game.Decide yourself, guys)...
Carlo never really did anything or changed our poor tactics to break out of the crisis... he was just lucky that it just worked somehow sometimes...and he was even more lucky that it was in champions league quaters and semis.
when you bet over and over again on the smae number on roullette...you will win once or twice but that doesnt change the fact that you've lost hundread times...
Coaching a football side is not a lottery!
A lot of Milan fans got the impression that the crisis is gone after one good match and a couple of wins against sides that Inter, Roma or Juve don't even dare to think about losing points with.
The same thing is that one goal against Manchester when everything was done anyway, doesnt mean that Gila is a top striker (again). Then Comandini should be compared to Roberto Baggio scoring two against Inter...
I'm sick of this "we are not in crisis, we have a problem and we working on it hard" craps..that i heared for hundread times during last two years from Ancelotti and baldy.
i'm also sick of that "we are the champions of europe" that they use everytime we got our *** slapped by some poor seria A team... i don't give a damn that we are champions of europe if we are struggling to draw against Siena! What the hell they are talking about?
All are just manipulating the fans to thing about what went well than what we are undergoing right now...trying to draw their attention away from the fact that the crisis that started long ago never really ended!
We need something really BIG to happened to finally start a new period...and a new coach is the only solution...getting rid of some players and buying couple of new could be neccessery too...and mainly stop Galliani from blathering all this crap to media!
My patience is gone...I hope that Curva Sud will be whisteling all night thru until Carlo is gone! He did even some good things for us but his time is up>...just dont make it any worse! This really hurts!
If you read what our coach says about possibly one of the ****iest game we've ever played...it reall hurts...
"As for the game, we played well on a very difficult pitch. It was very slippery due to the heavy rain and we couldn't have done anymore than what we did.
"We didn't concede any chances, we are just paying at the moment for the mistakes we are making.
We couldn't have done anymore than what we did?
Seriously the guy must be on LSD! Champions of Europe can't do more than what we showed against Celtic? How he dares! Is this world going crazy?

I don't want Ancelotti in Milan either, and I said that before the UCL-final - Even if Milan win, Ancelotti should leave. I still have that belief, Milan need fresh blood and fresh ideas. Ancelotti could leave with his head as high as possible.
However, saying that, to not recognize Ancelotti as a great coach only makes me furious. You simply don't win two UCL-titles by pure luck, you may think that but it is only partly true. It is about being best when it matters the most. Or do you honestly think it is pure coincidence that Milan have been in the final of 03, quarter of 04, final of 05, semifinal of 06 and final of 07? Is it? Why has no other team been that lucky?
You certainly don't win the league by luck like happened in 2004, when Ancelotti revolutionized the 4-3-1-2-formation and brought Europe the best football that year.
Not to mention Ancelotti's personality. Carlo is a great man, he has a great past with Milan and he has a huge heart for this club. It is time to go, but show some damn respect for God's sake and recognize him as a great coach and person.
He deserves it. He has failed at times, but he hasn't betrayed.

AND TO THINK OUR CLUB IS KNOWN AS THE DEVILS!!! hahaha yea the red and black will be really intimidating now. if dida is to ever play againn surely he must wear pink and purple. about the game ... completely lacklustre! enough said. we need a major shakeup. DEL BOSQUE!!!!!!
He won it in 2000, Semis in 2001, won it again in 2002 and semis again in 2003.. In addition to 2 Liga titles in 2001 and 2003.
Does this make him a great coach?
And Gurre, you always says don't talk about stats while you always do it to defend Ancelotti's records only..
Gurre
5th October 2007, 13:54
Yasser you have a great tendency to twist one's words. Often too.
Where did I say that "don't talk about stats"? I often say that you shouldn't base an opinion entirely or mostly on statistics, but to have a personal observation first and using statistics as second. Because I am a strong believer that statistics rarely speak the entire truth.
You can clearly see I don't use statistics as my primary argument with Carlo, even though I bring them up. Except for the personal view, I spoke about the fashion Milan won last league title, how he revolutionized the formation and how he is as a person, as non-statistic arguments.
If I based my opinion on statistics, perhaps I would want Ancelotti to stay, not leave.
Also, I don't really get it why you keep bringing up Vicente Del Bosque to speak for your cause. Why is that? Why isn't he a great coach?
A coach job isn't only to think about the strategical part. Del Bosque wasn't perhaps the best tactician, but he managed to keep a star studded team happy and united, leading them to great victories. You make it sound like he is a nobody, and that is clearly underestimating or simply not having much of a clue.

I understand that you don't want the points and how Dida reacted was disgusting, BUT Celtic need to be punished. Soccer cannot have fans running onto the pitch no matter how ridiculous wednesday was. That fan could have easily had a knife. Uefa should take this situation very seriously and yes go ahead and ban, or fine, Dida as well, but fans cannot run on the field. As I said already this summer the signing of Buffon would have injected some fresh blood and confidence to the squad. I'm sure players like Nesta, Rino, Ambro Pirlo etc. would have loved that signing. We saw what happened to the team, when we bought Nesta in 2002.
I'm really, really depressed that Berlusconi blocked the deal. But it doesn't change the fact that we still have a decent team. The team needs to get their act together for the next three months and then who knows what will happen come the next transfer window

1. Ancelotti did a great thing by winning the UCL last season which was in fact against all odds. We only played 3 magnificent games (Bayern away and the Utd. tie) to complete the miracle of Athens which balanced out the tragedy of Istanbul for us so everything evened up as it does in nature. Ancelotti should have left respectfully at that time as he was on a high. Lippi did it with Italia. Ancelotti should have done it as well because all was not good despite our UCL win.
2. If Ancelotti didn't leave then, he should have definitely left in the Summer seeing our below average transfer campaign!!! Dreams of Ronaldinho but in reality NOTHING concrete that we got. We really did need a new goalkeeper (Buffon), a defensive midfielder (ok ... we got Emerson), an attacking midfielder (Diego type IMO but we got nada), a striker (we got Pato but he is not available for half the season). It was a ridiculous transfer campaign even though we had money!
3. Berlusconi is a moron who thinks like the corrupt moron Gaylliani. His recent statement of blocking Buffon is only his way to shield the critics from Gaylliani just like Mourinho took all the wrap from the press while shielding his players before big games. Berlusconi and Gaylliani are TOGETHER in this. Don't forget that Gaylliani is also a YES FAGGOT for Silvio just like Ancelotti is a YES MAN for Gaylliani. It is their joint strategy that is resulting in this. Gaylliani is not that nice and shrewd to get Toni, Ribery and Buffon in the bag while Silvio stands there rejecting all of them!!! Don't forget that Gaylliani is a moron who requires months and months to wrap up transfers so I highly doubt that he had Toni, Ribery and Buffon in the bag in ONE Summer!!! I mean this clown signed a player who had already signed for Inter this Summer!!! We really DID NOT HAVE A PLAN!!!! That's a fact which is showing now. This is not all Berlusconi's fault alone. Both him and Gaylliani are in this together while the word gets a different picture of the reality. They lie to the fans. They give false hope. The reality is different.
3. Dida has no place in Milan. Last season he confirmed that. Why was he given a generous contract extension and such a high wage after performing so badly??? Once again this was a mutual decision by Gaylliani and Berlusconi. Both of them are in cahoots!
4. Maldini should have kept quiet when the fans booed Gila and Dida. He looks pretty daft now after lashing out at the fans.
5. Our management needs to put up or shut up now. Enough is enough. The Summer before last Calciopoli (thanks to Gaylliani) was blamed for a poor transfer campaign with hopes and dreams given of a very strong comeback by Milan this Summer. I don't think we would have got a strong transfer campaign even if we went out at the QF stage to Bayern. Our extremely poorly executed Summer transfer campaign of asking questions about many many players just shows how clueless we were on our targets!!! No focus at all.
6. The troubling thing is that we have to revive ourselves now as the season is under way. I really hate our new DYNAMICALLY STUPID strategy of going for shopping in the Winter Window when we are in a crisis because our competing clubs don't shop in the Winter!!! Don't be surprised if we shop again in the Winter. That's expected from this daft REACTIVE management which only acts after things go from bad to worse to crisis mode. Even last season we did that as everything was going downhill by getting Oddo and Ronzilla!!! It's the same $hit but different day this year!
7. Gaylliani has to leave now. Dida can go (however his handsome contract will make him live like a Prince as it is a big contract for 3 years so he gets the money even if he leaves now). Gila needs to prove himself quick because time is not on his side.
8. Gourcuff was over-rated by the team and the fans. He was never and will never be a player on the level of Seedorf on his big nights!!! He is an OK addition who can be good but not excellent. Our fans have a habit of over-rating our own to a large extent. I still remember the suggestions of picking Gourcuff over Seedorf in the second leg in Munich versus Bayern. The thing that most fans don't realize is that when Seedorf decides to whip out his black c*ck on a big match night, the whole arena turns black!!!! :d :d It's dark days for the opposition then!!! Gourcuff can't do that and he won't be able to do that in 5 years time as well.
9. I will repeat it once again. Diego will be a killer signing. R10 not so much!!!!
10. The UCL and Inter-Continental Cup are where we can fight. It is TOP PRIORITY to get Ronzilla fit because he can save us for the second year running from this turmoil!! He is needed. Everything will fall into shape once the Fat One returns. All roads lead to Ronville!!! Bring him back as we works excellently with Kaka and pressure is taken off Kaka as well when he comes back. Pirlo and Kaka need a break. They can't do everything by themselves all the time.
11. Bench Dida. I don't care if he is on a 4.5 million ridiculous wage package. He is playing like a 0.5 million piece of crap! It is utterly frustrating to realize that we missed on the greatest opportunity to nab perhaps the top 3 goalkeeper of all time!!!! Bloody morons! Misers. Paupers.

point 1,2,3 are points a kind value to much, we discussed this already a few times. Altho you always do explain your motivation perfectly i still see them as your own suggestions and also you cannot say that this is the case! good sugestions from your part for sure, but i think it's deeper then that, and when it doesn't then we have a very weak management and we can also blame then and not only galliani and berlu.
point 4, i was also surprised to hear this from maldini, but you can't blaim him to try such a move! i even think that maybe galliani or berlusconi demanded/asked him to do this as a favour for the team. afterall there is no player who has such a respect as paolo
point 5,6,7 idem to point 1,2,3,
point 8, i feel the same always did, but i do have a little bit more hope that one day gourcuff will be a better player for us then he is today.

i also agree pretty much on the other points altho they are pretty tricky,

UEFA, and even county federations, have shown that the clubs are responsible for their fans actions. Was it Denmark v Sweden when the fan ran onto the field to attack the ref? Inter v Milan in the 2005 CL, and what happened at Catania last year, the clubs were punished for what happened. Fans cannot step foot on the pitch. Celtic need to be punished one way or another. You can tell they are fearfull of losing points because they keep bashing dida (rightfully so) but neglect to point out how dangerous this situation could have been. Which is how UEFA should view this incident.

If there is any consistency at all in UEFA judging, Celtic should be punished for the supporter. It was a very similar incident in Denmark-Sweden, and UEFA gave Sweden a 3-0 win and gave further punishment to Denmark. There is no reason to make an exception to Celtic.
I'm not saying Milan should be awarded the win, because that dane actually hit the referee, and Dida was only slightly touched. However, some kind of punishment should be given to Celtic, otherwise UEFA has no credibility left IMHO. If only a fine, something must be given.
You can discuss whether it's right or not to punish the club, but that's how it is for the time being and that should be consistently followed.

Milan and Dida on trial
UEFA are pursuing disciplinary proceedings against Milan and goalkeeper Nelson Dida after events in the Champions League clash against Celtic.
The Rossoneri’s misery at a 2-1 reverse was intensified as Dida reacted dramatically to a blow from a fan who had invaded the pitch.
The interloper appeared to tap the giant Brazilian lightly with the palm of his hand, but Dida required a stretcher to leave the pitch prompting outrage from fans and the Press.
Celtic face action for allowing a fan to invade the playing surface, but it is now official that Milan will be charged for infringing on Article Five of the UEFA code.
This rule states “member associations, clubs, as well as their players, officials and members, shall conduct themselves according to the principles of loyalty, integrity and sportsmanship.”
The possible ramifications for Milan and Dida have not yet been made public, but it is widely believed that the European champions will face a substantial fine.
Dida is also likely to pick up a costly bill from UEFA, but he may also receive a suspension that could rule him out of crucial Champions League games.

UEFA actually doesn't hate Milan. They have a thing against Chelsea though. Gaylliani tried to be smart yet again and openly commented that Milan will not pursue for a fine or charges against Celtic in the hope that this angelic statement would win over UEFA hearts once again and pursue UEFA to do the necessary and stomp Celtic for the three points!
The reverse psychology thing didn't work because the dramatization by Dodo was on newly embarrassing levels this time around.
What UEFA is doing to us is right but going by precedent what they are doing to us and not to Celtic is grossly wrong and unfair. They are playing within the rules so they can charge Milan and Dodo but the same rules have to be in play for Celtic with a heftier fine in this very case then.
Dario
9th October 2007, 13:12
If common sense prevails, Celtic will be fined and banned from having fans at their homes games for the rest of the group stages. Dida will also get fined for unsporting behaviour. Milan should not be fined because they were quick to distance themselves from his actions. The substitution was because Dida said he was hurt and you don't take a chance with head 'injuries'.. I don't think Milan did anything wrong.
Of course, UEFA are mostly French, so common sense won't prevail.

Why should Milan? Clubs are never responsible when players simulate. Name me one incident that pure simulation has led to investigation of the club.
Maybe it should be that way, but it's not how it is and therefor it's ridiculous that Milan are facing charges for Dida. Just as I was talking about Cetlic, that isn't judging with consistency.

You are right, drew, but that's not how it is today and that's why Milan shouldn't be punished. Only if UEFA change their policy and clubs are responsible for their player's simulation, which they aren't about to do.

even if milan were to be punished, that will most probably be a non-significant fine. But Dida, should really be banned, he deserved a ban. He should maybe enroll at the London school of Drama.

It was pathetic but I don't think you should go overkill on Dida. He was trying to influence the result of a game by simulating. How many times haven't we seen Inzaghi, Gilardino or Kaká doing exactly that over and over again, without decapitating them?

100% agree, you can't ban dida because of this, he obviously made the wrong decision, but these kind of situations are very difficult to handle for a player! i think many others would have done the same

easy tiger less of the bold text :D
I wasnt having a pop at you i was having a pop at UEFA, it is a joke, such was rivaldo in 2002. The reason for all the play acting today is because clubs arent held accountable. It like Full Metal Jacket, if Private Pile F@cks up, i will not punish him, i will punish the rest of you!
The same goes for talking back to refs, ffs John Terry stopped the ref pulling his card out, these morons should show some respect, they should be sent off, fines do nothing, it doesnt even make a dent! If we finish games 7 vs8 then lets do it for a short time. Dida was only a worse situation because of the isolated incident, and its circumstance.
