Ac Milan vs Empoli
:milan: :empoli:
A test match before the big clash against Bayern few days later. But simultaneosly , three points are a must here as we face Juve next week ,so , if we want to keep our hopes alive than we must win this one. Shouldnt be a hard task , but remember Empoli has always been causing us troubles.
kalac
simic nesta kaladze sergio
vogel
gatusso jankulowski
rui costa
amoroso gilardino(pippo)
id say rest sheva , pirlo , seedorf stam is suspended.
fillipo
2nd March 2006, 11:31
important match indeed, but we must without to much effort and be ready for bayern and juve!
drew
2nd March 2006, 12:40
if you ask me juve becomes irrelevant except for the fact we dont want to lose to the scummers. If samp beat juve this week (unlikely) and we beat Empoli, and then we beat juve in turin we are still 4 points behind, if we met juve 1, 2 or even 3 points behind id say theres hope for the title, but our no 1 objective has to be the CL and Bayern.
Against Empoli id almost be tempted to rest nesta if possible, as nesta got a knock in the italy game, i dont know how bad, and i dont know the injury status at the moment, but we need him 100% for bayern. I know that would make our defence somewhat shaky, but it is empoli at home. Also id play vogel and rino like artan says to to protect our weaken back four.

Nice line up, I would expect Jankulovski,Amoroso and Vogel to impress especially since they "should" be eager to prove they deserve more playing time. Kalac could be in the post - Dida's ok now I read somewhere but I think we should rest him.
Indeed Vogel and Rino should help the defense a lot. How about Ambro - still not back yet??

It'll be really hard to beat Juve to the scudetto. They are 10 points ahead and there's just 11 games and 33 points to go....our performance this season would suggest we need a bigger miracle for Juve to drop points than for us not to faulter in 11 games but I think we shd forget about Juve and reach for ALL points in sight afterall ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE...to them that believe.
Forza Milan!!

i didnt know Nesta got a knock in that friendly , so in that case i would put Costacurta instead. Hm , yea that will definitively weaken our defence , but Bayern encouonter is more important than Empoli.Although , i dont see any weak opponents on Empoli when they face us.

I think the Empoli game is almost as important, if not more important than the Bayern game actually. It could give us the momentum needed to really finish our season on a high:
- We need to beat Empoli to keep the heat on Juve
- There is actually no better time to get points on juve, as they will certainly rest some key players in prep for the Werder game, as well as having both Trez and ADP out for this game anyway...this weakened side will have to go to the marassi, which is a tough place to play anyway, and Samp despite their indifferent season usually turn it on for the big guns
-If we win and Juve lose/draw, the lead would be cut to 7/8 points, giving us a hell of a lot of hope for the future. This in turn will psychologically lift the players and make them have a higher morale going into the Bayern game
- Higher Morale means obv better chance of progressing, and then even higher morale, as all of a sudden, going into the JUVE GAME we will be undefeated in some weeks with a chance of bringing the lead down to about 4/5 points which would really open up the race again
THerefore in my opinion, this Empoli game could be the catalyst in what will not necessarily decide the outcome of our season, but help us to see what we can aim for

If Juventus lose points at Luigi Ferraris Milan have the chance to blow the title race wide open with a win at Delle Alpi. Is Del Piero out of the Sampdoria game? For certain, Ibrahimovic and Trezegeut is out.
But... Juventus usually win in Genoa and it will be really hard to win in Torino. Plus Milan have to win against Empoli. If we don't, then we're not worthy of the scudetto anyway :)

Yes indeed!!The next 3 games will show us the real worth of this Milan side. The best possible scenario is 3 wins and qualification to the next round of CL and closing the gap to 4 points in Serie A! This would be a miracle. It will be very hard though but not impossible! This is a time when we all must rally behind the boys!

That's the spirit Walker - BELIEVE!!! Is Del Piero REALLY out of d Sampdoria game today?? That'll give a bigger chance of Sampdoria pulling something out of that game since Trez and Ibra have been confirmed out already...
Lets stay with our team really and focus less (if at all) on Juve...let them be the ones to be worried, looking back over their shoulders which'll make them more likely to stumble in a race situation (laughs) we can do it....the next 3 games indeed will prove our REAL worth and nothing less than wins will do(a 0-0 draw is acceptable vs Bayern but dangerous I must add).
I look forward to seeing everyone in his best shape - havent seen the team list for 2days game...Carlo said something like Kaka may be rested...been a while since we saw Rui, maybe he can be hauled at Empoli. Ambro will be ready for Bayern....enough STEEL then for that game...so help us God.

guys come on , should juve draw in marassi , ( without ibra and trez - probably the most plausible result) the difference will melt to 8 and if we beat Juve next week then the difference will be only 5! i am sure that we can do it , and beat juve in dele alpi , we are better then juve, we can beat them. last year they were lucky as we draw and the ref , as usual , but this time , i feel its gonna be another story there.

8' Good defensive play from Milan...Nesta and Simic linking up well to get Milan going back down the other end.
6' Milan have started with Inzaghi and Gilardino up front...Sheva is on the bench.
5' Empoli react with a Bosce header on their first excursion into the Milan half. The ball goes well over the cross bar though.
3' Milan are trying to take the game by the scruff of the neck right off the bat....Rui Costa's cross/shot is gathered by Cejas in the Empoli goal.
1' The game has got off to a bit of a hectic start...

11' Gila tries to link up with the oncoming Inzaghi but he is short...still Milan on the attack though.

25' Empoli witha free kick...nothing comes of it and meanwhile Gilardino seems to be just fine.
23' Gilardino down with after taking a knock to the ankle.
23' A massive mix up in the Milan defence...Costacurta was ball watching and Busce got his shot off...Almrion at the far post was short and Milan get away scot free...
20' Milan have most of the possession but lacking their ususal fluidity, probably due to the fact that both Pirlo and Kaka are on the bench.

30' Great stuff from Costacurta!!! He gets slides the ball past the Empoli defender and his cross/shot just bounces off the top corner of the post!
28' Costacurta concedes a corner...the shot eventually comes from Almiron but Milan cleared easily.
26' Inzaghi nearly latched onto a Vogel throughball but the Empoli defender did very well to get there first.

43' Kaka is warming up...Ancelotti clearly believes that his side need a little more inspiration...the Brazilian will undoubtedly feature after the break.
40' Jankulowski's cross is woefully mis hit...
39' Milan are turning round and round the problem but they've yet to break down this Empoli defense...Ancelotti is looking stoic on the touchline but he's unlikely to be satisfied with his teams performance so far.

I've seen worse from us but I've also seen much better.
There's no lack of desire as a fairly second string side tries to prove itself out there, and there has been a reasonable amount of linking up, but unfortunately our overall lack of class has shown through. An entirely second string defence hasn't been tested at all, and on the rare occasions Empoli get forward, we've not looked stretched. In saying that, they had one glorious chance and should have scored from it.
At the other end we've had a few shots here and there, but besides hitting the post, and Clarence's clever chip, we've not looked like scoring.
Inzaghi is once again our most potent threat and looks full of energy. He's also improved his offside timing, being caught a lot less than he used to be.
Also delighted to see Marek starting, but the fact that he has started seems to confirm him as a second string choice squad player by Carlo.
Here's hoping we can step up a gear in the second half and get the goal (s) we need.
I have to say we also have the look of a side who is resigned to holding onto second place in the league.

quite a phenomenon there... in my POV,, when the sub goalkeeper is at goal,, defenders are not feeling as secure as they are with the regular, so then, they work harder to protect the goal. vise versa. but, regular goalkeepers are not always at their best. so entra phenomenon..at least that's what happen IMO ;)

I agree! As sad as it is! Well Samp deserved more and I think Juve goal was from an off side. Neverthless we must come back with a victory from Turin just to prove them that they might have win the scudetto but they did not win against us! Now it is Bayern game and we must qualify!

Do you reckon Pippo will start on wednesday? I think that after this him and Shev are definites now :)
He HAS tO START vs. Bayern. Inzaghi was one of the major contributors in Milan's last Champions league win. He's much more lethal than Gilardino. He's like a deadly snake. Remember the goal against Ajax. He sometimes makes goals out of nothing

I know one game isn't enough to totally judge a player but...
I hate to say I told you so. Jankulovski isn't a LB and he certainly showed that today. We were lucky Almiron didn't score when Marek was totally misplaced in a dangerous situation in the first half. Not to mention that he was useless offensively

I am the most pro-Janku person in this group but I have to conceed he was a BIG disappointment yesterday. I was so, so glad to see him in the starting line up but then between 70 & 90% of his contributions(can I call them that?) were faulty. What happened? We saw him play well for Udinese didnt we? and for Czech republic? Could it be that he was too conscious that he had to make a positive contribution??
Maybe we all now see why Carlo has kept him off all this while....
On the game I think Carlo made good substitutions and at the right time too - it was good to see Kaka in so early - he almost brought him in first half. I think Seedorf was probably worse than Marek in that game so he was the RIGHT man to give way...
Then Gila was kinda quiet/subdued for the better part of his game and Sheva was the answer. U know, I think Pirlo answered most of the questions we raised about him lately - he made some good tackles (lets excuse his WILD free kicks).
All said, lets look forward to Pippo-Sheva pair vs Bayern come wednesday. Forza Milan!!
Ancelotti: I'd have dropped everyone Saturday 4 March, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carlo Ancelotti was furious at his Milan players after a sluggish display against Empoli. “I’d have substituted everyone if I could.”
“In the first half we got everything wrong,” he said after the hard-fought 3-0 win. “We were too slow, not aggressive enough and frankly I’d have substituted all my players if I could. Nonetheless, we did well to keep our heads and speed up the tempo after the break.”
The Rossoneri were disappointing for an hour of their match with the Tuscans, but once Pippo Inzaghi’s first goal went in off the crossbar, suddenly the game opened up.
“I thought I had put out the line-up that was most reliable for this delicate encounter. We had a lot of internationals who weren’t too sharp after the midweek games and I knew I could make changes later on. Our other commitments proved distracting.”
This is a crunch week for Ancelotti, as he challenges Bayern Munich for a place in the Champions League and faces Juventus next weekend.
Inzaghi came to the rescue again, scoring a brace in the closing stages to take his seasonal tally in Serie A to 10 goals. Was this a message to Italy Coach Marcello Lippi?
“No, no,” assured the striker who was left out of the squad for the 4-1 friendly win over Germany. “This was purely for Milan, as it was important to win so that we could keep Inter at bay and prepare for the Bayern game. I’m not a first team regular here either, but there are many great strikers and I have always accepted the Coach’s choices.”
Empoli boss Gigi Cagni was also impressed with Inzaghi’s display at the San Siro.
“Inzaghi is a World Cup style player and surely the best at negotiating his position in the area,” said the Coach.
“We always make the same mistakes, as if a defender stands so close to strikers like this, they get turned too easily. It’s a shame about the result, as we put in a good performance and had some good chances in the first half.”

agree mate, i think italy will rightly start with toni and gila, but pippo will get them through tough games, he will fight scrap and run like noone else in the WC
as for marek, we need to buy players to suit our formation, janku was never gonna fit into carlos milan, he isnt a LB and he wont fit into a 3 man mid, he needs to be wide to run the line, either in a flat 4 man mid, or as a WB in a 5 man mid. i really feel sorry for him, i hoope he doesnt lose faith in us and leave, we have failed a great player this season!!!!!!

I've always said it Super Pippo is SO important for Milan, he's a top striker, a man with a Milan heart :flag:
Now I want Sheva - Pippo to start vs Bayern but don't shoot Gila, he's so good and did he got one decent chance yesterday ? No he didn't. He's the future
Marek played a bad game, I can understand him, he's a player that needs confidence and play time and he can't do miracles in one game.

seeing Pippo score for me is like women have orgasmus five times in 5minutes :D
great display today ,not that pippo scored twice , but his fighting spirit , trying to dribble opponents , arguing refs decisions, the notorious way of celebrating a ****t goal ;D, makes me feel damn great. he booked already his WC ticket ,IMO , and the staring spot vs BAYERN!

i agree pippo should play vs bayern, he is in a rich vein of form, but i disagree he is more lethal then gila, he is a much less cultured player than gila, and they are both superb in there own right. Also he has a lot more experience than glia, i think gila has had a trmendous first season considering how up and down we have been

Guys, I don't know if you know this but nowadays you don't have to subscribe or pay to watch the interviews and the highlights on www.acmilan.com. It's free.
So, <b>Feiipez</b>, go to the official website and you will find the highlights there. ;)
As for Ancelotti, he did a very good job yesterday.

i love to watch pippo celebrate, he fell over the sponsor signs on his first goal, classic! i rewatched the highlights, what i really like about pippo is that if you watch the third goal his intent was to follow the shot for the rebound. soccer players since the age of 5 are told to follow shots b/c you dont know what is going to happen. pippo has an uncanny nose for the goal. welcome back pippo!!

inter lost 2 points against roma, or should i say won 1 point thanks to the 89 min goal from materazzi. anyway our second place is becoming more and more secure

Very entertaining game. Perhaps a little bit too much EPL type of game, and too little nice display, but still entertaining and exciting. Nice result, Roma's record has stopped and Merda are slipping for second place. :)

RUI COSTA is a real pain in the ***, pack ur bags and go away, i remember Boban when he left Milan, he said he wanted to quit football before he started to play bad, i think Rui Costa should do the same instead of sucking cash to the Club, i enjoyed the moment when San Siro whistled and booed him, and he clapped his hands ( how u dare! )
you are just like Rivaldo just good for a Greek or Portuguese league, go go !|

I think you should show more respect for Rui Costa. He has IMHO overall been somewhat of a bad buy with that enormous transfer fee, his salary plus his the fact that he hasn't lived up the the high expectations. But, he is a good guy, and he has my respect for that. :) However... I do agree with you. Rui Costa is today a very weak player who no longer can't dominate even against teams like Reggina and Empoli. It's time for him to leave, no doubt.
A lots of kisses to Mau, even though he's cheating on me and Mixet :D ;)

Bravo Mau :thumb:
Whilst he still commands my respect as a former great, any endearment factor went by the way when he spurned an opening to return to his beloved Benfica and a pivotal role in the side, opting instead for these lethargic, blasé, ineffective cameo roles which have become his hallmark.
It's inconceivable that he'll still be in the squad next season, but I've been saying that for the past three years.
